Developing 12 entire streetwear and accessory ranges to release yearly based on a single source of inspiration is challenging, but creating a final offering that draws inspiration and creative guidance through 12 seemingly unrelated topics is a challenging task to undertake.
This is how we did it;
Knowledge is the science of facts.
Knowledge is to know why, and why is why.
Knowledge was made to manifest in three parts; looking, listening, and observing.
Artist: RAKIM
Track: Juice (Know the ledge)
Album: Don't Sweat The Technique
Year: 1992
“Standin' on shaky ground too close to the edge / Let's see if I Know-the-Ledge”
Seeing as the album was released and 1992 to accompany a movie staring the biggest name in hiphop at the time (2pac), we decided to really utilise the feeling of nostalgia via grunge and worn textures, bright colours relative to the branding of the day within the subculture, and bold message driven typography.
The decision to use a manipulated photo of Rakim around the time was purely based on nostalgia, replicating the designs of the big, loud and bold branding associated with streetwear at the time.
