Jewel 4 of 12 Freedom

Freedom is the 4th Jewel of the KC WONDER 12 Jewels collection and also one that is very close to our hearts, being that our family roots originate from Cape Town South Africa.

This Jewel design incorporates the famous imprint of Nelson Mandela hand which clearly shows the map of Africa in the palm section, and his signature at the bottom. We have taken this image and incorporate the word that best describes what every man or woman want to be in this journey of life FREEDOM

With straight bold working through the middle of the Mandela handprint you really get the message that we are putting out. On top of all of this add the hard hitting track by one of our favourite artists and man that we have had the opportunity to meet and interview on occasion. Pharoahe Monch, and his song FREE off the Desire album released in 2007.

“You can clip my wings, shackle and chain me
Back straight standing tall a child God, n I’m Free!
Spit in my face, hold me down
I’m a keep my feet firm to the ground, cause Im FREE!"

Now we can’t speak on what Monch had in mind when he wrote this track but the fact that we are able to take these lyrics and they marry them in so well, we were convinced (without in depth research) that this was in complete alignment with the message that we are putting out there.

There was another detail that was on the original design that didn’t make the cut and that was a series of numbers 46664 these number indicated the prison number when Mandela was imprisoned on Robben Island in 1964. They represent him being the 466th prisoner sent to the prison in the year 64 hence 466/64.

We decided that in respect for Mr Mandela and what could be something that didn’t really need to be re introduced or questioned so we chose to leave it out but more than happy to inform our readers on this fact if you didn’t already know.

This design is a reflection of anyone that has ever felt mis treated or held back from being heard, or have felt the need to take the lead and fight for what they believe in.

This is a strong piece that we are proud of as a brand to stand behind, promote and inform to people of all cultures and backgrounds, urging them to seek FREEDOM in their lives and break away from the norm or the shackle and chains and be free!
